FAQ

Q: Is HyperKewl  Cooling fabric safe?

A: Yes. It contains non-toxic polymer. See our MSDS on the downloads page.

Q: How does it work?

A: Our HyperKewl is sewn into the lining of all our garments. The special fabric absorbs water very quickly and releases it very slowly for extended cooling from evaporation.

Q: What temperature does it provide?
A: Users can expect temperatures 10-15ºC cooler than the ambient temperature, depending on airflow.  Please note that high humidity (90%) will diminish the fabric’s ability to evaporate water and therefore provide cooling (unless there is a strong airflow).

Q: How long will the cooling effect last?

A: Once hydrated the products will stay cool for anywhere between 2-10 hours depending on humidity and airflow levels.

Q: How long do I hydrate the garments?

A: 1-2 minutes.

Q: What is the lifespan of the HyperKewl products?

A: HyperKewl fabric is designed to provide up to 100 wet/dry cycles.  Water absorbency will diminish over time as HyperKewl fibers migrate and entangle within the fabric structure.  You may see an initial decline in the absorption of water after 5-10 wet/dry cycles as the fabric “settles,” but absorbency will remain relatively stable after this initial 5-10 wet/dry cycles.  This is normal and the fabric is still very effective at water absorption and evaporation.  Absorbency will also be impacted by hydration length, garment care, water quality, as well as other factors.

Q: How much will the items weigh?

A: You control the weight of your garment by how long you hydrate it.  Our #6529 Sport Cooling Vest will weigh approximately 750 grams after a 2 minute soaking.

Q: Can I silk screen and/or embroider the products?
A: We recommend embroidery.

Q: How can I wash the garments?

A: In order to maintain the longest life of the product and HyperKewl cooling fabric it is best to hand wash the garments with a gentle soap and brush.  Avoid soaking the garments in soapy water.  Simply use the brush to wash off the garment.

Q: What temperature is the Phase Change Material (PCM)?

A: A comfortable 14ºC.

Q: How long will the PCM stay activated?

A: Vest inserts will remain at 14ºC for up to 3 hours.

Q: How do you activate PCM?

A: Solidify the inserts by placing them in a fridge, freezer, or ice water.

Q: How long does it take to activate them?

A: Approximately 30 minutes.

Q: How much does PCM weigh?

A: PCM is 25% lighter than water.

Q: Is PCM safe?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, and non-flammable.

Q: Is PCM reusable?

A: Yes, the inserts can be re-activated over and over again.

Q: How can I wash the inserts and clothing?
A: The inserts can be wiped off with a cloth.  They are made of polyurethane and are very durable.  Do not use sharp objects as the inserts could be punctured.  The clothing can be washed as per normal washing instructions for cotton or poly/cotton.  Remove the inserts before washing.

Q: How does it work?

A: Our AC Cooling Towels are made with super absorbent PVA material. This unique fabric absorbs water very quickly and releases it very slowly for extended cooling from evaporation.

A: The cooling effect will last from 2-5 hours on average depending on the amount of moisture in the towel, the outside temperature, and the relative humidity.

Q: How should I care for it?
A: After use, simply rinse the AC Towel thoroughly with clean water, wring excess water from towel and place in the container it came in. If the pouch will be stored for a while, leave it open and allow the AC Towel to dry out completely inside the pouch. Once completely dry, close the top and store in a cool, dry area. To reactivate a dry towel, soak in water until it becomes pliable (usually 1-2 minutes).  DO NOT try to bend a dry towel as it may break. If you lose the original container, a one gallon zip lock bag works great for storage.

Q: How do I clean it?
A: If the AC Towel becomes soiled or needs to be cleaned, simply place it in the washing machine with your next load of clothes. DO NOT MACHINE DRY! If the towel has been stored damp and develops mildew or an odor, add 1 tablespoon bleach to 1 gallon of warm water and allow the towel to soak for an hour or two. Then, rinse thoroughly to remove any bleach residue. The towel can now be washed in the washing machine to remove any residual stains. It is now ready for use or storage.

Q: Can I put it in the freezer?
A: No! If you freeze the AC Towel and try to flex or bend it in the frozen state, it will break. It is fine to put them in ice-cold water or a cooler filled with ice though. Be sure to put the cooling towel in a bag to keep it from contacting the ice directly as the ice may freeze to the cooling towel and damage it.

Q: What happens if it dries out?
A: To reactivate a dry towel, soak in water over it until it becomes pliable. (usually 1-3 minutes) DO NOT try to bend a dry towel as it may break.

Q: What is the AC Towel’s lifespan?
A: The towel itself will last indefinitely with proper care. They are very rugged and most people will lose them before they tear them up.

Q: Will it become less effective with age?
A: No! As long as the towel is intact and has moisture in it, it will cool just like it did when it was new.

Q: Can I cut it?
A: Yes, the towel can be cut to make 2 smaller towels. However, when you cut it, you reduce the surface area of the towel and the amount of moisture it can hold, which will affect the cooling ability of the now smaller towels.

Q: How do HeatPax Warmers work?
A: The Warmers are filled with iron powder which oxidizes when exposed to oxygen. This is a powerful exothermic reaction resulting in heat.

Q: What temperature do the HeatPax warmers provide?

A: Once activated the HeatPax provide a 56ºC temperature.

Q: How long do the HeatPax Warmers last?

A: Body Warmers 20 plus hours, Mini/Hand Warmers 8 hours, Adhesive Toe Warmers 5 hours.

Q: Can the Warmers be reused?
A: You can stop the HeatPax at any time and reuse them at a later date by sealing them off from the oxygen in the air (i.e. plastic container or airtight bag). They are discarded when completely consumed.

Q: How do I get the HeatPax Warmers to heat up?

A: Simply tear open the package. Wait 10 minutes for them to heat up fully.

Q: Are HeatPax Warmers safe?

A: Yes, they are non-toxic.

Q: How do I use them to stay warm?

A: After opening them, place the Warmers in your garment or pocket for maximum comfort.
