• Cooling apparel to prevent heat stress in dogs:

With temperatures soaring there is a sharp increase in the incidence of heat stress in dogs, potentially
leading to heat stroke – a life threatening condition. But you no longer need to worry about the summer heat. For the first time ever, TechNiche International’s innovative HyperKewl and TechKewl cooling products for dogs are available in India.

Dogs don’t have sweat glands, so it is critical to prevent them from overheating. Heat stress occurs when a dog loses its natural ability to regulate its body temperature. Our cooling coats cover vital organs, and continually pull the heat out of the dog’s bloodstream as it rushes through the veins, helping prevent heat stress in dogs.

  • Why do I need a Cooling Dog Coat?

Dogs are susceptible to heatstroke just as their human owners are, so understanding the warning signs and being proactive in keeping your dog cool is key to keeping him/her comfortable and possibly saving his life in hot weather.

    Heat stress in dogs

When we get hot, we sweat. Sweating is how the human body protects itself from overheating. Dogs however, do not sweat. They only have sweat glands in the pads of their paws, which helps with some heat dissipation, but for the most part, they pant. Panting eliminates excess heat from a dog’s body. When panting isn’t enough, the dog’s body temperature rises and can be fatal if not corrected immediately.

Signs of heat stress in dogs

Heat exhaustion and heat stress in dogs presents itself in the following ways:

    • Increased heart rate
    • Excessive panting
    • Increased salivation
    • Bright red tongue
    • Red or pale gums
    • Thick, sticky saliva
    • Depression
    • Weakness
    • Dizziness
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhea

    What to do

If you notice signs of heat stress in your dog, immediate action is vital. You have to get your dog’s body temperature down quickly to avoid brain damage, kidney failure, blood clots or even death.

    1. Get the dog out of the heat immediately.
    2. Wet him down thoroughly with cool (not cold) water.
    3. Increase air movement in the area with a fan.
    4. Check his temperature rectally every five minutes.
    5. Once his temperature has dropped to 103ºF, stop all cooling methods and dry him completely.
    6. Wrap him in a towel or blanket to keep him from losing too much heat.
    7. Even if he appears to recover quickly, take him to your veterinarian to be checked out. He could be dehydrated or suffer other complications.

Tip: Don’t try to bring your dog’s temperature down too quickly or expose him to extremely cold water as this could send his body into shock and present a host of other complications.

    Preventing heat stress in dogs

We like that old saying that goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” In the case of heat stroke, this couldn’t be more true. Making sure your dog is protected from heat stroke in the first place is a smart move, and we have just the thing – a HyperKewl cooling coat.

Our HyperKewl Evaporative Dog Cooling Coats are super cool – literally! They work on the principle of the cooling properties of evaporation (much like our bodies do), to keep your dog cool from the inside out.

So, keep your best mate safe from heat stroke by making sure he has a shaded, cool area to rest, plenty of cool, fresh water to drink, and is wearing one of our dog cooling vests.

  • HyperKewl™ Cooling Dog Coats

Our HyperKewl cooling dog coats create an advanced water management system by absorbing water and slowly releasing it through a process of evaporation, keeping you 6-12ºC cooler for hours

    To use:

    • simply submerge the product in water for 1-2 minutes;
    • gently squeeze out any excess water;
    • wipe the inside dry
    • put on your dog

Let the HyperKewl Dog Coat’s advanced cooling management system work its magic; keeping your dog 6-12ºC cooler for hours. When the cooling effect starts to lessen all you need to do is follow these steps again to reactivate the product.
